Coimbatore: Union Minister of State Dr. L. The train was flagged off from Mettupalayam Railway Station, ushering in a new era of transportation for the region.

The express train will operate twice a week, departing from Mettupalayam at 7:35 PM on Fridays and Sundays, reaching Tuticorin at 4:20 AM the following day. In the return direction, the train will leave Tuticorin at 10:50 PM on Thursdays and Saturdays, heading towards Mettupalayam.

This new service will cover key stations including Coimbatore Junction, Kinathukadavu, Pollachi, Udumalpet, Palani, Oddanchatram, Dindigul, Madurai, Virudhunagar, Sattur, and Kovilpatti. The train is equipped with air-conditioned coaches, sleeper facilities, and general seating compartments, catering to diverse passenger needs.

The Mettupalayam-Tuticorin train service is expected to benefit various sectors, including industrialists, tourists, pilgrims, and students, by connecting different parts of Tamil Nadu to the port city of Tuticorin. It will also play a crucial role in facilitating the transport of agricultural and industrial products from the Mettupalayam region to other parts of the state.

In addition to this service, Minister Murugan also inaugurated the extension of MEMU train services from Coimbatore to Podanur, enhancing connectivity between Coimbatore's southern areas and Mettupalayam. Furthermore, he announced that the Coimbatore-Tirupati train, which operates four days a week, will now have a stop at Samalapatti.

Addressing the media, Dr. L. Murugan emphasized the significance of this new rail service in connecting the renowned tourist destinations of Nilgiris and Mettupalayam with the southern districts. He stated, "This train service will not only benefit tourists but also greatly assist farmers and industrialists from Mettupalayam in transporting their products to other regions."

The Minister also assured that the demand for daily operation of the Mettupalayam-Tuticorin train service, currently running twice a week, would be considered and necessary steps would be taken to address this request.
