Aliyar Dam Water Level Reaches 106 Feet, Farmers Rejoice

Aliyar Dam near Pollachi sees water level rise to 106 feet due to continuous southwest monsoon rains. Farmers express joy as dam nears full capacity.

Coimbatore: The Aliyar Dam, located near Pollachi, has seen its water level rise to 106 feet, bringing cheer to farmers in the region. The continuous southwest monsoon rains in various parts of Tamil Nadu have led to a rapid increase in water levels across dams in the state.

Heavy rainfall in the Western Ghats has resulted in flooding in the catchment areas of the Aliyar Dam, significantly increasing the inflow. The water level in the dam has been rising at an average rate of four to five feet per day.

As of 7 AM today, the water level in the Aliyar Dam, which has a total capacity of 120 feet, stands at 106 feet. This marks a substantial increase from yesterday's level of 101.10 feet. Public Works Department officials report that the current inflow to the dam is 3,709 cubic feet, while 84 cubic feet per second is being released.

Given the continuous rise in water level, it is anticipated that the dam will reach its full capacity within the next day or two. This development has brought immense joy to farmers in the region, who rely on the dam's water for irrigation.

The increasing water levels in the Aliyar Dam and other reservoirs in the state are a result of the active southwest monsoon. This promising start to the water year is expected to benefit agriculture and water security in the region.
