Heavy Monsoon Rains Intensify in Coimbatore, Noyyal River in Spate

Coimbatore district experiences intense monsoon rains for three days, causing floods in Noyyal River. Officials warn residents near riverbanks to move to safer locations.

Coimbatore: The monsoon rains have intensified in Coimbatore district, with continuous downpour for the past three days in several areas along the Western Ghats foothills and Siruvani catchment areas.

The heavy rainfall has led to flooding in the Noyyal River. The Chithirai Chavadi dam, which is the first check dam on the Noyyal River, is currently experiencing a heavy inflow of water. The water diverted through the Raja Vaikkal from this dam typically supplies Coimbatore's major lakes.

Due to the flood situation, water is gushing into the Chithirai Chavadi dam at an alarming rate. The district administration has issued a warning to the public, prohibiting washing clothes or fishing in the Noyyal River and its check dams during this period of high water flow.

Authorities have also advised residents living along the riverbanks to remain vigilant and move to safer locations as a precautionary measure. The continuous rainfall and subsequent flooding have put the district administration on high alert, monitoring the situation closely to ensure public safety.
