CCTV Footage Captures Tragic Accident of Judge Karunanidhi in Pollachi

Judge Karunanidhi of Nilgiris District Court was fatally struck by a two-wheeler while crossing the Pollachi-Udumalpet National Highway. The incident, captured on CCTV, shows the accused fleeing the scene.


Coimbatore: A heart-wrenching incident unfolded on the Pollachi-Udumalpet National Highway near Chinnampayam area last Monday afternoon when Additional Judge Karunanidhi of the Nilgiris District Court lost his life in a tragic road accident. The judge was attempting to cross the highway when he was struck by a speeding two-wheeler.

The East Kaval police, who registered a case regarding the incident, examined CCTV footage from cameras installed in the area as part of their investigation. The footage revealed the shocking sequence of events that led to the judge's untimely demise.



The accused, identified as Vanchimuthu from K. Nagoor in Kanjampatti, was arrested by the police for causing the accident and fleeing the scene without stopping. He has been charged with reckless driving and booked under relevant sections of the law before being remanded to judicial custody.

The CCTV footage, which has now been made public, shows Judge Karunanidhi attempting to cross the road when a speeding two-wheeler collides with him. The impact causes the judge to lose balance and fall to the ground. In a disturbing turn of events, Vanchimuthu is seen picking up his two-wheeler and mobile phone before fleeing the accident site, leaving the critically injured judge on the road.

The release of this CCTV footage has caused a stir among the public, highlighting the need for road safety and responsible driving. The incident serves as a grim reminder of the potentially fatal consequences of reckless behavior on the roads, even claiming the life of a respected member of the judiciary.

Local authorities are expected to take this incident as a cue to implement stricter traffic rules and increase surveillance on busy highways to prevent such tragic accidents in the future.
