Commissioner Orders Immediate Desilting of Storm Water Drains in Coimbatore

Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner M Sivaguru Prabakaran IAS inspected Thamarai Selvanayagi Street and Kuniyamuthur Dam area on July 18, ordering immediate desilting of storm water drains and cleaning of sluice gates.


Coimbatore: Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation Commissioner M Sivaguru Prabakaran IAS conducted an inspection of Thamarai Selvanayagi Street in Ward 64 of the Central Zone on July 18. During the visit, he ordered the concerned officials to immediately desilt the storm water drains in the area.

The Commissioner's inspection aimed to assess the condition of drainage systems in preparation for the upcoming monsoon season. He emphasized the importance of maintaining clear water channels to prevent flooding during heavy rains.



Following the inspection in Thamarai Selvanayagi Street, Commissioner Prabhakaran visited the Kuniyamuthur Dam area near Sengkulam Perur Lake in Madampatti and Thannerpandal regions. He examined the sluice gates and instructed officials to clean any blockages to ensure smooth water flow.

The Commissioner stressed the need for proactive measures to mitigate potential flood risks. He directed the officials to complete the desilting and cleaning works promptly, keeping in mind the possibility of early monsoon rains.



Accompanying the Commissioner during the inspections were Assistant Commissioner (General) Ilangovan, Assistant Engineer Kanagaraj, Public Works Department Assistant Executive Engineer Amsaraj, Engineer Karuppasamy, Assistant Engineer Hemalatha, Zonal Health Officer Gunasekaran, Assistant Engineer Balachandran, Health Inspector Jaganathan, and other Corporation officials.

The Commissioner's hands-on approach and immediate directives demonstrate the Corporation's commitment to improving the city's drainage infrastructure and flood preparedness.
