Coimbatore: District Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati has announced the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) for the Kharif season in Coimbatore district. The scheme, initiated through a government order, aims to provide crop insurance coverage to farmers.

For the Kharif season, farmers can insure paddy crops at Rs. 764 per acre, while black gram and green gram can be insured at Rs. 308 per acre. The deadline for these crops is July 31, 2024. Maize can be insured at Rs. 744 per acre, sorghum at Rs. 245 per acre, and horse gram at Rs. 308 per acre, with the deadline set for September 16, 2024.

Horticulture crops are also covered under the scheme. Brinjal can be insured at Rs. 1,170 per acre, onion at Rs. 1,782 per acre, and tomato at Rs. 1,495 per acre, with the deadline being August 31, 2024. Banana crops can be insured at Rs. 2,939 per acre, cassava at Rs. 1,720 per acre, and turmeric at Rs. 722 per acre, with insurance available until September 16, 2024.

Farmers owning land or leasing land can avail of crop insurance by visiting their nearest e-seva center. They need to carry their Chitta, Adangal, bank passbook, and Aadhaar card. This insurance will protect farmers from crop losses due to natural calamities.

Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati has urged farmers to take advantage of this scheme and protect their crops. For any doubts or queries, farmers can approach their nearest Agriculture Extension Center for assistance.
