Coimbatore Records Average Rainfall of 32.87 mm - Disaster Management Department Report

The Disaster Management Department released rainfall data for Coimbatore on July 18, showing an average of 32.87 mm across various locations, with some areas receiving over 100 mm of rain.


Coimbatore: The Disaster Management Department has released the rainfall data for Coimbatore on July 18, providing a comprehensive overview of precipitation levels across the district.

According to the report, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University in Coimbatore recorded 19.8 mm of rainfall, while Periyanaickenpalayam received 1 mm, and Mettupalayam 1.5 mm. The Pillur Dam area saw 6 mm of rain, and Annur registered 1.2 mm. The Coimbatore South Taluk Office reported 6.8 mm, Sulur 5 mm, and Varapatti 2 mm of rainfall.

Siruvani area experienced a significant downpour with 47 mm of rain, while Madukkarai and Podanur Railway Station both recorded 4 mm each. Pollachi received a substantial 30 mm of rainfall, and Makkinampatti registered 32 mm. Kinathukadavu saw 7.5 mm, and Anaimalai Taluk recorded 11 mm of precipitation.

The report also highlighted heavy rainfall in some areas, particularly in the hilly regions. Aliyar received 15.2 mm, while Cincona experienced a hefty 97 mm of rain. Cinnakallar topped the list with an impressive 152 mm of rainfall. The Valparai Parambikulam Aliyar Project areas recorded 109 mm, Valparai Taluk 106 mm, and Sholayar 99 mm of precipitation.

The Disaster Management Department concluded that the average rainfall across Coimbatore district stood at 32.87 mm, indicating a considerable amount of precipitation in the region. This data is crucial for water resource management, agriculture planning, and flood preparedness in the district.
