Vegetable Prices Skyrocket in Coimbatore

Continuous rainfall in Coimbatore district has led to decreased vegetable production and supply from other districts and states, causing a significant surge in vegetable prices.

Coimbatore: The Coimbatore district has been experiencing continuous rainfall, resulting in a decrease in vegetable production. Similarly, the supply of vegetables from other districts and states to Coimbatore has also reduced. These factors have led to a significant increase in vegetable prices.

Vegetable market traders have reported the following price hikes: Local tomatoes are selling at ₹90 per kg, while apple tomatoes are priced at ₹100 per kg. Large onions are being sold at ₹50 per kg, and small onions at ₹40 per kg. Other vegetables have also seen price increases, with beans at ₹80 per kg, broad beans at ₹75, bitter gourd at ₹60, green chillies at ₹85, drumsticks at ₹100, and turkey berry at ₹140 per kg.

Ooty potatoes are priced at ₹90 per kg, carrots at ₹85, beetroot at ₹75, and capsicum at ₹75 per kg. Notably, cabbage, which usually has a lower price, is currently being sold at ₹50 per kg. Garlic has seen a significant price hike, selling at ₹254 per kg.

Fruit prices have also increased. Pomegranates are selling at ₹200 per kg, grapes at ₹80, mangoes at ₹150, apples at ₹220, oranges at ₹100, custard apples at ₹60, and pineapples at ₹45 per kg.
