New LHB Rakes for Coimbatore-Ramanathapuram Weekly Express; Rameswaram Extension Anticipated

The Coimbatore-Ramanathapuram Weekly Express now operates with new LHB rakes. The service is expected to extend to Rameswaram once the Pambam bridge work is completed.

Coimbatore: The Coimbatore-Ramanathapuram Weekly Express has received an upgrade with the introduction of new Linke Hofmann Busch (LHB) rakes from July 16, 2024. This enhancement replaces the older Indian Coach Factory (ICF) rakes, improving the travel experience for passengers.

The train, which operates only on Tuesdays, departs from Coimbatore at 19:45 and arrives in Ramanathapuram at 04:23 the following day. On its return journey, it leaves Ramanathapuram at 20:13 and reaches Coimbatore at 06:30.

The route covers several key stations including Tirupur, Erode, Karur, Trichy, Pudukkottai, Karaikudi, Sivagangai, Manamadurai, Paramakudi, and Ramanathapuram. Railway authorities have indicated that the service will be extended to Rameswaram once the ongoing Pambam bridge work is completed and opened for rail traffic.

Rail passenger associations in the Coimbatore region have expressed their appreciation for the introduction of the new LHB rakes. They have also put forth a request to increase the frequency of this train service from weekly to daily, citing the benefits it would bring to passengers from Pudukkottai, Devakottai, Karaikudi, and Rameswaram traveling to Coimbatore.

The upgrade to LHB rakes and the potential extension to Rameswaram are expected to significantly improve the travel experience and connectivity for passengers in the region. The railway authorities are considering the demand for increased frequency, which could further enhance the service's utility for regular commuters and tourists alike.
