BJP's Vanathi Srinivasan Criticizes DMK Government for Electricity Tariff Hike

Vanathi Srinivasan, MLA of Coimbatore South, condemns the DMK government's decision to increase electricity tariffs, calling it a punishment for Tamil Nadu voters who elected 40 MPs from the DMK alliance.

Coimbatore: Vanathi Srinivasan, BJP MLA of Coimbatore South, held a press conference at her office, where she strongly criticized the DMK government's decision to increase electricity tariffs in Tamil Nadu.

Srinivasan stated, "The DMK government has announced an electricity tariff hike as a punishment for the people of Tamil Nadu who gave them 40 MPs. There will be an approximate 5% increase in electricity charges. The DMK government continues to burden the poor and common people with property tax hikes, registration fee increases, and now electricity tariff hikes."

She further explained that the electricity tariff increase would lead to a rise in the prices of manufactured goods, affecting people in various ways. "The BJP demands that the Tamil Nadu government withdraw this electricity tariff hike, which will impact the public on multiple fronts," she added.

Srinivasan pointed out that Tamil Nadu has the highest debt among all states in India, yet it also imposes the highest tax increases. She criticized the government for consistently acting in ways that affect all sections of society.

Addressing the government's justification for the tariff hike, she said, "They claim the UDAY scheme is the reason for the electricity price increase. However, the UDAY scheme aims to regulate electricity supply to the public, not to increase tariffs. It has become their habit to blame the central government for whatever they do."

Commenting on the law and order situation in Tamil Nadu, Srinivasan stated, "The series of murders occurring in Tamil Nadu shows that law and order in the state has deteriorated."

Regarding the Cauvery water issue, she questioned, "The DMK government says the central government should intervene in the Cauvery issue. Why can't they talk to their alliance partner, the Congress government in Karnataka?" She further added, "Coalition dharma should be about protecting people's rights, not about defeating Modi. The DMK government, which claims to have more MPs and to lead the opposition, couldn't even negotiate with the Congress government to get water from Karnataka. How will they govern India?"
