CITU Construction and Unorganized Sector Unions Stage Statewide Protest

CITU construction and unorganized sector unions staged a statewide protest in Coimbatore, demanding improvements in welfare board provisions. The demonstration took place near the District Collector's office, highlighting various issues affecting workers.


Coimbatore: The Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) construction and unorganized sector unions staged a statewide protest on Wednesday, demanding improvements in the Construction and Unorganized Workers Welfare Board provisions. As part of the demonstration, union members gathered in front of the BSNL office near the District Collector's office in Coimbatore.

The protesters put forth several demands, including a monthly pension of Rs. 3,000 for retirees aged 60 and above, implementation of election promises regarding pension amount increases, and the establishment of ESI (Employees' State Insurance) medical facilities for unorganized sector workers. Slogans were raised during the protest, urging the authorities to fulfill these demands.



Key demands of the protesters included:

1. Providing a monthly pension of Rs. 3,000 to retirees aged 60 and above.

2. Increasing pension amounts as per election promises.

3. Rectifying issues in the welfare board's online server.

4. Timely disbursement of pending monetary benefits.

5. Creating ESI medical facilities for unorganized sector workers.

6. Conducting monthly meetings of the District Collector-led monitoring committee to address existing issues.

7. Forming and regularly convening boards for all state-level welfare boards.

8. Implementing uniform monetary benefits across all welfare boards, similar to the increases provided in the construction board.

9. Streamlining the document upload process for applications related to marriage and other requests.



The demonstration highlighted the ongoing issues faced by workers in the construction and unorganized sectors, emphasizing the need for immediate action from the authorities to address their concerns and improve their working conditions.
