Goondas Act Invoked Against Two Ganja Case Offenders in Coimbatore

Two Kerala natives, arrested for possessing 60 kg of ganja in Pollachi, have been detained under the Goondas Act on July 15 following orders from Coimbatore District Collector.

Coimbatore: The Coimbatore district police have invoked the Goondas Act against two individuals arrested in a ganja case. The accused, Rasheed (30), son of Basheer, and Khalil Rahman (44), son of Umar, both hailing from Kerala, were initially arrested by the Pollachi East police for possessing 60 kg of ganja for sale in the Pollachi East police station limits.

The duo was subsequently imprisoned following their arrest. Coimbatore District Superintendent of Police Badrinarayanan recommended action against the two under the Goondas Act for their involvement in activities detrimental to public order and public health maintenance.

Based on this recommendation, Coimbatore District Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati issued orders to invoke the Goondas Act against the accused. Consequently, on July 15, Rasheed (30) and Khalil Rahman (44) were detained under the Goondas Act and remanded to judicial custody.

The implementation of the Goondas Act against these ganja case offenders demonstrates the authorities' commitment to curbing drug-related crimes in the region. This action is expected to serve as a deterrent to potential drug peddlers and contribute to maintaining public order in Coimbatore district.
