A sudden flash flood at Aliyar Kaviaruvi near Pollachi forced the evacuation of tourists. The Forest Department imposed a temporary ban on bathing in the waterfall due to unexpected water surge on Sunday morning.

Coimbatore: A sudden flash flood at Aliyar Kaviaruvi, located in the Anamalai Tiger Reserve near Pollachi, led to an emergency evacuation of tourists and a temporary ban on bathing in the popular waterfall.

The incident occurred on Sunday morning when the waterfall, a favorite spot for holidaymakers, was teeming with visitors. As it was a weekend, tourists had started arriving at Aliyar Kaviaruvi as early as 7:00 AM. Forest Department officials, following their usual practice, had allowed tourists to bathe in the waterfall.

However, around 9:00 AM, while tourists were enjoying their swim, there was a sudden and unexpected surge of water in the waterfall. As the water flow intensified, Forest Department officials quickly sprang into action, prioritizing the safety of the visitors. They immediately began evacuating the tourists from the area.

In response to the potential danger posed by the increased water flow, the Forest Department imposed a temporary ban on bathing in the waterfall. They have closed access to Aliyar Kaviaruvi until the water flow stabilizes and it is deemed safe for visitors. This sudden turn of events has left many tourists disappointed, forcing them to return without experiencing the waterfall.

The Forest Department's swift action in evacuating the area prevented any untoward incidents. Officials are monitoring the situation closely and will reassess the conditions before lifting the temporary ban. Visitors planning a trip to Aliyar Kaviaruvii are advised to check with local authorities about the current status before traveling.
