Maha Kumbabhishekam Ceremony at Angalamman Temple in Ponnivadi

The Arulmiku Angalamman Temple in Ponnivadi near Dharapuram, Tiruppur district, celebrated its Maha Kumbabhishekam ceremony with traditional rituals and homams. The event marked the consecration of the newly renovated temple and its Raja Gopuram.


Coimbatore: The Arulmiku Angalamman Temple in Ponnivadi, near Dharapuram in Tiruppur district, celebrated its Maha Kumbabhishekam ceremony with great fervor and devotion. The event marked the consecration of the newly renovated temple and its Raja Gopuram following extensive restoration work.

The ceremony began with various homams, including Maha Ganapati Homam, Lakshmi Homam, and Navagraha Homam, followed by Poorna Kumbha Deepa Aradhanai. The second day of the rituals saw the performance of Yagasalai Puja, Go Puja, and Maha Poornakumbham.



As part of the Kumbabhishekam process, the holy water was taken in a procession around the temple. The consecration ceremony was then performed for the temple stupa, gopuram, main deity, and the newly constructed towers. This was followed by abhishekam, aradhana, and alankaram for the deities.

Angalamman is revered as a protective deity for gods, humans, and all living beings on earth. According to local folklore, the idol of Angalamman in Ponnivadi was originally brought in a basket in the form of a brick. It is said that the current form of the deity was sculpted several hundred years ago.

The Maha Kumbabhishekam ceremony at the Angalamman Temple is believed to bring prosperity and blessings to the devotees and the region.
