Coimbatore: Two individuals, including a woman, were arrested in Coimbatore for allegedly threatening a police officer with death on Big Bazaar Street. The incident occurred on July 10 when Special Sub-Inspector Murugesan was on routine patrol duty.

Murugesan, who serves at the Big Bazaar Street Police Station, was patrolling the area when he noticed two people engaged in a public altercation. As he attempted to intervene and reprimand them, the duo reportedly used abusive language and issued death threats against the officer.

Following the incident, a complaint was lodged at the Big Bazaar Street Police Station. Sub-Inspector Kalidas rushed to the scene and apprehended the accused. The arrested individuals were identified as Sardar, 33, from G.M. Nagar in South Ukkadam, and Mary, 40, wife of Anthony Jegan from Thillai Nagar.

The police have registered a case against the accused under three sections, including obstructing a government official from performing duty and issuing death threats. Both Sardar and Mary were subsequently produced before a local court and remanded to judicial custody.

This incident highlights the challenges faced by law enforcement officers while maintaining public order and the swift action taken by the Coimbatore police in dealing with threats against their personnel.
