Coimbatore police arrested two individuals near Neelampur on July 10 for attempting to sell banned tobacco products worth Rs. 2.08 lakhs. The suspects were caught during a vehicle check based on a tip-off.

Coimbatore: In an ongoing effort to curb the circulation of narcotic substances including ganja and tobacco products, the Coimbatore District Police have been implementing various measures. On July 10, the Sulur police received confidential information about the transportation of tobacco products banned by the Tamil Nadu government for sale within their jurisdiction.

Acting on this tip-off, the Sulur police conducted a vehicle check near Neelampur. During the inspection, they intercepted a four-wheeler carrying suspicious cargo, which turned out to be banned tobacco products intended for sale.

The police subsequently arrested two individuals: Thalaram (31) from Rajasthan and Abdul Rahman (22) from Karnataka. The authorities seized 250 kilograms of prohibited tobacco products valued at Rs. 2,08,000 along with the four-wheeler used for transportation.

This arrest highlights the continuous efforts of the Coimbatore police to crack down on the illegal trade of banned substances in the district. The quick action based on intelligence inputs demonstrates the department's commitment to maintaining law and order and protecting public health by preventing the distribution of harmful tobacco products.

The case is currently under investigation, and the police are working to uncover any potential larger network involved in the smuggling and distribution of banned tobacco products in the region.
