The Agricultural Engineering College and Research Institute, TNAU, Coimbatore, organized IWPT '24 from July 2-9, 2024, focusing on particle and powder characterization in agriculture and allied sectors under international expert guidance.

Coimbatore: The Agricultural Engineering College and Research Institute, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU), Coimbatore, successfully organized the International Workshop on Particle Technology (IWPT '24) from July 2 to July 9, 2024. The week-long workshop focused on particle and powder characterization in agriculture and allied sectors, offering participants an opportunity to master fundamental principles and applications under the guidance of international experts.

The inaugural function took place on July 2, 2024, at the Seminar Hall of AEC&RI, TNAU, Coimbatore. Dr. A. Raviraj, Dean of AEC&RI, delivered the presidential address, emphasizing the importance of particle technology. He highlighted its applications in encapsulating flavors and nutrients, improving texture and shelf life, and enhancing nutritional bioavailability through nano-and micro-sized particles.

Dr. E. Somasundaram, Director of Agribusiness Development, gave a special address underscoring the significance of AI and data science in refining encapsulation techniques. He spoke about predicting optimal particle sizes for nutrient delivery and automating quality control processes to ensure efficiency and consistency in food production.

The workshop was structured into three modules. The first module on Particle and Powder characterization was held from July 2 to July 6, 2024. The Discrete Element Method Modelling (DEM) and Data Analysis and AI modules were conducted from July 8 to 9, 2024.

Dr. Kingsly Ambrose, Professor of Agricultural and Biological Engineering at Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN, USA, led the Particle and Powder characterization module. His extensive experience in this domain provided participants with deeper insights into the subject matter.

Experts from Altair India conducted the second and third modules, offering comprehensive, open-architecture simulation, artificial intelligence (AI), and data analytics solutions. This arrangement provided participants with a unique blend of hands-on sessions led by an international scientist and industry experts.

The International Workshop on Particle Technology (IWPT '24) concluded on July 9, 2024, marking the end of a week filled with valuable knowledge exchange and practical learning experiences in the field of particle technology and its applications in agriculture.
