Petition Submitted to District Collector to Prevent Violence Against Inter-Caste Couples

Various social, democratic, and human rights organizations in Coimbatore jointly submitted a petition to the District Collector, urging action to prevent violence against inter-caste couples and honor killings.

Coimbatore: Various social, democratic, and human rights organizations in Coimbatore have united to submit a petition to the District Collector, demanding government intervention to prevent violence and document crimes against inter-caste couples. The movement, named "Coalition Against Honor Killings," is led by Ramakrishnan, the General Secretary of Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam.

The petition highlights that caste-based violence, particularly against inter-caste marriages and love affairs, is a significant issue in many parts of Tamil Nadu, often leading to murders and other crimes. The coalition emphasizes the urgent need for the state government to establish a special division to address threats and attacks on inter-caste couples.

The petition calls for an automated system to register complaints as First Information Reports (FIRs) immediately upon receiving a phone call. This system should provide instant copies of the FIRs to the affected individuals and initiate prompt action on the complaints.

The coalition also demands that senior police officials monitor the special division to ensure its proper functioning. They suggest that the division should have the freedom to appoint counselors as needed, without any restrictions.

Furthermore, the petition urges the government to implement various measures to protect inter-caste couples and prevent honor killings. The Coalition Against Honor Killings, representing multiple organizations, submitted this comprehensive petition to the District Collector, emphasizing the critical need for immediate action to safeguard the rights and lives of inter-caste couples in Tamil Nadu.
