Madurai MP S. Venkatesan comments on BJP's defeat in Ayodhya and Chitrakoot, highlighting voter awareness and criticizing central government policies at a literary event in Coimbatore.
Coimbatore: Madurai Member of Parliament S. Venkatesan has stated that the BJP's defeat in Ayodhya, the birthplace of Lord Ram, and Chitrakoot, where Ram spent part of his exile, demonstrates that voters have made it clear that temples are not gateways to polling booths.
The Tamil Nadu Progressive Writers and Artists Association organized a literary meet and logo release event on Sunday at a private technical college in the Peelamedu area of Coimbatore. The event was attended by Madurai MP S. Venkatesan, poet Sirpi Balasubramaniam, writer Tamil Selvan, and various other writers and poets. The association's golden jubilee logo was unveiled, and Tamil Selvan's short story collections were released during the event.
Speaking to reporters during the event, MP S. Venkatesan commented on the recent CBSE exam announcements by the central government. He pointed out that the application forms allocate 10% marks for Hindi language, which he deemed unfair to non-Hindi speaking students, particularly those from southern states like Tamil Nadu. Venkatesan stated that this announcement goes against the Official Languages Act of India and that he has written to the Union Education Minister requesting the withdrawal of this announcement and modification of exam rules.
Venkatesan criticized the BJP's approach post-election, citing the selection of the Speaker of the Lok Sabha without consulting the opposition. He emphasized that the Indian people have given a strong response in this election, particularly in places like Ayodhya and Chitrakoot. "The BJP candidates have been defeated in Ayodhya, Lord Ram's birthplace, and Chitrakoot, where Ram spent a significant part of his exile and which has the most Ram statues in India," he remarked.
The MP also addressed issues related to democratic processes, highlighting the introduction of three new special laws without proper consultation with the judiciary, lawyers, or the public. He called for the withdrawal of these laws, supporting the ongoing protests by lawyers across the country.
Venkatesan also raised concerns about the lack of daytime train services between Madurai and Coimbatore, despite the completion of broad gauge conversion a decade ago. He compared the infrastructure development in Tamil Nadu to northern states like Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, stating that Tamil Nadu has received only one-fifth of the investment in four-lane highways compared to these states over the past ten years. He called for increased investments in Tamil Nadu, particularly in railway services and the construction sector.
