Coimbatore: The Salem Railway Division has announced a significant revenue of Rs 70.03 crore from freight train operations during the first quarter of the current fiscal year. This impressive figure was achieved through the transportation of 6 lakh 97 thousand 559 tonnes of goods between April and June.

These stations include Coimbatore, North Coimbatore, Podanur, Vanjipalayam, Tirupur, Uthukkuli, Erode, Salem, Mettupalayam, and Karur.

The freight trains transport a wide range of items, including machine spare parts, food products, textiles, medical supplies, equipment, vegetables, fruits, and parcels. This diverse cargo movement has been contributing significantly to the railway administration's revenue.

The Salem Railway Division also reported that petroleum products, cement, iron and steel goods, and containers were among the highest volume items transported during this period. These goods have played a crucial role in boosting the division's freight revenue.

In addition to freight services, the division has also seen success in its parcel services. During the same first quarter (April to June), a total of 1 lakh 26 thousand 251 parcels were dispatched, generating an additional revenue of Rs 4.78 crore for the division.
