Traders Petition for Extension of Government Exhibition in Coimbatore

Traders at the government exhibition in Coimbatore have petitioned for an extension until July 14, 2024, citing low footfall due to delayed start and end of summer holidays.

Coimbatore: Traders participating in the ongoing government exhibition at the VOC Grounds in Coimbatore have submitted a petition to the Director of Information and Public Relations Department of Tamil Nadu, requesting an extension of the event.

The exhibition, which began on May 29, 2024, is currently scheduled to conclude on July 12, 2024. However, traders are seeking an extension until July 14, 2024, citing lower-than-expected attendance and revenue.

In their petition, the traders highlighted that the exhibition typically takes place during the summer holidays. However, this year, due to the parliamentary elections, the event started much later than usual. Consequently, the summer holidays have ended, and schools and colleges have reopened, resulting in a significant decrease in visitor numbers.

The petitioners stated that so far, only about 1.50 lakh people have visited the exhibition, compared to 2.50 lakh visitors in the previous year. This reduction in footfall has directly impacted the revenue generated by the event.

The exhibition showcases various government welfare schemes and also offers entertainment features for visitors. Traders hope that an extension will allow more people to visit the exhibition and take advantage of the information and amenities provided.

The Information and Public Relations Department is yet to respond to the petition. The decision on whether to extend the exhibition will likely depend on various factors, including the feasibility of continuing the event and the potential benefits to both traders and visitors.
