Udumalpet Municipal Council Meeting: Heated Debates on Waste Management and TASMAC Relocation

Udumalpet Municipal Council meeting held today addressed waste management issues and TASMAC shop relocation. AIADMK and DMK councillors raised concerns, leading to heated debates with officials.

Tirupur: The Udumalpet Municipal Council meeting was held today at the municipal office conference hall under the chairmanship of Council President Matheen. The meeting witnessed heated debates on various civic issues, particularly waste management and the relocation of a government-run liquor shop.

AIADMK council member Soundararajan raised concerns about improper garbage collection in the wards under Udumalpet municipality. He alleged that despite informing the concerned officials, there was negligence in removing the garbage. Soundararajan demanded action against the officials who showed negligence, leading to a heated argument with the authorities present.

DMK council member Jayakumar, representing Ward 25, highlighted the issues caused by a government-run TASMAC liquor shop located opposite the Central Cooperative Bank Urban Bank on Thali Road in Udumalpet. He stated that the shop was causing severe inconvenience to the public. Jayakumar pointed out that although a resolution was passed by the municipality a few months ago to relocate the shop, no action had been taken so far. He urged that another resolution be passed and called on the Commissioner to take immediate action on the demands put forth by the council members.

Despite the heated debates, the meeting, chaired by Municipal President Matheen, successfully passed about 75 resolutions unanimously. These resolutions included fund allocations for various development projects in the municipality.

The council meeting highlighted the pressing need for improved waste management practices and the relocation of the controversial TASMAC outlet, reflecting the concerns of local residents and the challenges faced by the municipal administration in addressing these issues.
