Temple Lands Worth Rs. 6,004 Crore Recovered in Three Years: Minister Sekar Babu

Tamil Nadu Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Minister Sekar Babu announced in the assembly that temple lands worth Rs. 6,004 crore have been recovered in the past three years under DMK rule.


Coimbatore: Tamil Nadu Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Minister Sekar Babu made a series of announcements in the state assembly regarding the recovery of temple lands and various developmental activities undertaken in the past three years under the DMK government.

The minister stated that temple lands worth Rs. 6,004 crore have been recovered in the past three years under DMK rule. This is a significant increase compared to the previous 10-year administration, which recovered temple lands worth only Rs. 3,819 crore.

In addition to land recovery, 420 items, including idols and artifacts, have been retrieved. The government has also approved 20,166 renovation works for 8,962 temples at an estimated cost of Rs. 5,097 crore, out of which 7,648 works have been completed so far.

Minister Sekar Babu further elaborated on the developmental activities:

1. Consecration ceremonies (Kumbabhishekam) have been conducted in 1,810 temples in the last three years.

2. 35 new Raja Gopurams (temple towers) have been constructed.

3. 74 new wooden chariots, 5 new silver chariots, and 3 new golden chariots have been made for various temples.

4. 4 new temple tanks have been created, and 1 lakh sacred tree saplings have been planted.

These initiatives demonstrate the government's commitment to preserving and developing Hindu temples and their assets across the state. The recovery of temple lands and the focus on renovation and development projects are expected to benefit both the temples and the local communities.
