Coimbatore Corporation to Prepare DPR for Enhanced Pillur-III Water Supply in West Zone

Coimbatore Corporation is set to prepare a detailed project report for improving the Pillur-III water project to solve water supply issues in West zone, announced Corporation Commissioner M. Sivaguru Prabakaran.

Coimbatore: Addressing the drinking water supply challenges in the West zone of Coimbatore, the local Corporation has disclosed plans for the preparation of a detailed project report (DPR) aimed at enhancing the Pillur-III water project. This announcement was made during a recent inspection of the water supply facilities, including the overhead tank at Koundampalayam.

Corporation Commissioner M. Sivaguru Prabakaran explained that the current system provides water only once every six days, trailing behind the expected frequency of every three to four nor due to delays in mechanised pumping. The proposed enhancements include building an additional master storage reservoir and another storage reservoir specifically for the West zone to bolster the overall supply capabilities.

"In light of these setbacks, we are exploring alternatives to speed up the water distribution, potentially through the application of gravity-based methods," said Commissioner Prabhakaran. He further stated a meeting scheduled for Tuesday aimed at addressing similar water supply issues across several other regions. "Currently, tests for the Pillur-III project are being conducted in the East and North zones," he added, highlighting ongoing efforts to ensure wider coverage and reliability.
