Over 500 Locals Protest to Demolish New TASMAC Outlet Near Dharapuram

More than 500 residents of Suriyanallur, near Dharapuram, attempted a road blockade demanding the demolition of a newly constructed TASMAC liquor outlet.


Coimbatore: In a significant display of collective dissent, over 500 residents from Suriyanallur, near Dharapuram, engaged in a road blockade today at Gundadam Four Road. This protest was initiated due to ongoing construction activities for a new TASMAC liquor outlet in the region, which the locals demand to demolish.




The situation drew the attention of Dharapuram Revenue Officer Govindasamy and Police Supervisor Kalyarasu, who arrived at the spot to negotiate with the protestors. The public firmly stated that they would disperse and end the protests only if a permanent closure of the TASMAC outlet in their locality was assured. Discussions are ongoing, as both officials are involved in negotiating terms to resolve the grievances aired by Suriyanallur’s residents. The episode has created considerable unrest in the area, highlighting the community’s unrest.
