Coimbatore Commission Orders Transport Company to Pay for Undelivered Consignment

Coimbatore District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has ordered Mettur Transports to compensate for a failed delivery of truck tyres from Coimbatore to Hosur, totaling Rs 55,800 plus interest and additional compensation.

Coimbatore: A significant ruling was made by the Coimbatore District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission this Saturday, as it mandated Mettur Transports to pay a full compensation for a consignment they failed to deliver. A N Rathnagiriswaran from GM Nagar, Ukkadam, had booked the transportation of a batch of truck tyres valued at Rs 55,000 on March 5, 2022. Despite paying a freight charge of Rs 800 for transport from Coimbatore to Hosur, he never received his goods. Following the non-delivery, the company neither addressed the issue nor settled the claimed amount. As a resolution, the commission has directed the company to pay Mr. Rathnagiriswaran a sum of Rs 55,800 inclusive of the goods' value and freight charges, along with an interest of 9% from the complaint's date. Additionally, the company must pay Rs 10,000 as compensation and Rs 5,000 towards the cost of proceedings. This decision emphasizes the accountability that transport companies have towards their customers.
