Pollachi MLA Accuses Local Police of Ignoring Illicit Liquor Trade in Mavadappu

Pollachi MLA Jayaraman criticized local police for ignoring the ongoing illicit liquor trade in Mavadappu, causing health issues among locals. Two hospitalizations occurred near Udumalaipettai, sparking concerns.

Coimbatore: The sale of illicit liquor in the tribal village of Mavadappu has come under scrutiny following a recent health scare that sent two individuals to Pollachi Government Hospital. According to Pollachi MLA Jayaraman, the illegal activity has been a longstanding issue, known to the police yet unaddressed. The matter escalated when two victims, severely affected by the illicit liquor, were later transferred to private hospitals in Coimbatore for advanced treatment.

MLA Jayaraman, speaking to reporters, highlighted the failure of law enforcement to curb this menace despite being aware of the problem. The issue was brought into sharper focus during a visit to Ramakrishna Hospital in Gandhipuram by MLA Valparai Amul Kandasamy, where they inquired about the health of one hospitalized victim, Mahendran, on June 30.

The MLA expressed his concerns about how international companies would invest in a region where law enforcement overlooks such serious illicit activities. He emphasized the need for a safer environment for the working class, suggesting that the influence of marijuna, methamphetamine, and other drugs makes the area especially unsafe. "The police force in Tamil Nadu is potent and capable. Assigning skilled officers to key positions alone can avoid such unpleasant incidents," stated MLA Jayaraman. He warned that if the situation does not improve, the local populace would take matters into their own hands to address this lawlessness, echoing his call for immediate and effective police action to eliminate the drug menace in the state.
