Clash Case During Coimbatore City Corporation Mayor Election Resolved, BJP Members Acquitted

During the 2014 Coimbatore City Corporation Mayor election, a clash occurred between AIADMK and BJP members in Selvapuram. The case concluded with the acquittal of 9 BJP members.


Coimbatore: The court case related to a clash between AIADMK and BJP members during the 2014 Coimbatore City Corporation Mayor election voting has concluded. The incident took place in Selvapuram, a day before the voting, leading to complaints filed at Peelamedu police station by both parties. In response to a complaint by the AIADMK, an FIR was lodged against 9 BJP individuals under various charges including attempt to murder.



After exhaustive hearings and testimony from 13 witnesses, the First Additional District Court in Coimbatore delivered the verdict on June 28. Judge Sasirekha ruled in favor of acquitting all accused, including Nandakumar, the BJP responsible for Nilgiris parliamentary constituency, and general secretary Damodaran, citing lack of sufficient evidence.
