Monthly Public Grievance Camps to Begin at Coimbatore Central Zone Office - Zonal Chairperson Meena Logu Announces

Coimbatore Corporation's Central Zone Chairperson Meena Logu has announced that monthly public grievance camps will be held at the zonal office starting July 1. Various issues were discussed during the monthly zonal meeting.

Coimbatore: The monthly meeting of the Coimbatore Corporation's Central Zone was held today at the zonal office conference hall. The meeting, chaired by Zonal Chairperson Meena Logu, saw several important announcements and decisions being made.

Key Announcements and Discussions:

1. Monthly Public Grievance Camps:

Zonal Chairperson Meena Logu announced that starting July 1, monthly public grievance meetings will be held at the Central Zone office. She stated that this initiative would help resolve various issues faced by the public, including certificate-related problems.

2. Reduction in Gym Fees:

Councillor Vairamurgan of Ward 47 raised the issue of high fees at the Corporation's gym, which currently range from Rs. 450 to Rs. 550. He requested a reduction in fees, mentioning that the Corporation Commissioner had recommended setting it at Rs. 150 per month.

3. Transparency in Lease Information:

The Zonal Chairperson emphasized that details about leased properties and collection of fees within the zone should be made known to the respective area councillors. She specifically mentioned that information about shops in Anna Market should be transparently communicated.

4. Complaints about Sanitation Work:

Meena Logu pointed out that there has been an increase in complaints about sanitation work since it was outsourced to private contractors. She expressed concern that despite purchasing equipment worth Rs. 1 crore, there were complaints about the lack of basic tools.

5. Emphasis on Transparency:

"I have come to the position of Zonal Chairperson after serving as a councillor. Officials should not think that I am unaware of the workings," Meena Logu stated, stressing the need for transparency in all matters.

The meeting was attended by Assistant Commissioner Senthilkumaran, Assistant Executive Engineer Karuppusamy, Assistant Administrative Engineer Hemalatha, and various ward councillors. Councillors including Mubasira, Shanthi Murugan, Jayabharathi, and Annapoorani raised issues pertaining to their respective wards.

Meena Logu emphasized that as people's representatives need to meet citizens daily, officials should promptly address their requests. She also noted that there were fewer complaints when the Corporation directly handled sanitation work compared to the current outsourced system.

The Zonal Chairperson's announcement of monthly public grievance camps is expected to provide a regular platform for citizens to voice their concerns and seek solutions. This move, along with the emphasis on transparency, is anticipated to improve the Corporation's responsiveness to public needs.

The meeting also touched upon other local issues such as the maintenance of public spaces, water supply, and the need for better coordination between different departments of the Corporation.

As the Central Zone of Coimbatore Corporation takes these steps towards more accessible and transparent governance, it is expected to set a precedent for other zones and potentially for other municipal corporations in the region.
