Reduction in Water Release from Bhavani River

Bhavani river flow reduced following the increase in water level at the Pillur Dam, which reached 97 feet out of 100 due to continuous heavy rains.

Coimbatore: The water release from Bhavani river has been reduced today, following a significant rise in the water level at the Pillur Dam. The dam, which serves as a primary drinking water source for Coimbatore and Tiruppur districts, recorded a water level of 97 feet out of its total capacity of 100 feet on June 27. This increase was due to continuous heavy rainfall, bringing about 14,000 cubic feet of water per second to the dam.

As a consequence, initially, 14,000 cubic feet of water per second was released into the Bhavani River yesterday. However, as of the morning of June 28, the water level in the dam has decreased to 93.75 feet.

Thus, the release from the dam was adjusted, and currently, only 6,000 cubic feet of water per second is being released from the Pillur Dam.
