Perur Padithurai Experiences Floods after Continuous Heavy Rainfall

After eight months of dry spells, Perur Padithurai in Coimbatore witnesses significant flooding due to continuous rainfall, affecting the local community and agriculture.

Coimbatore: After an extended period of drought, Perur Padithurai in Coimbatore district has finally seen heavy rainfall, leading to significant flooding. This has brought immense relief to the locals and priests who have been facing water scarcity for rituals and agricultural purposes.

For the past week, heavy rains have caused the waters to overflow in the Noyyal River, leading to flooding in various parts of the district including the crucial areas of Perur Padithurai. The long-awaited water flow has submerged five steps of the local riverbank and continues to rise as the rains do not seem to abate.

Authorities are urging people not to dispose of plastic items, garbage, or clothing into the floodwaters and have strictly prohibited entering fast-flowing sections for bathing, selfies, or any other activities to ensure safety. The floods have also facilitated adequate water supplies for rituals like Tarpanam, particularly important during the upcoming Aadi Amavasai. Both locals and priests have expressed their joy over this replenishment, which they deem sufficient for the occasion.

As heavy rainfall is expected to continue, authorities recommend that residents enjoy the weather safely and ensure that all activities near water bodies are conducted with caution.
