Out-of-State Omni Bus Seized in Coimbatore, Regional Transport Officials Impose Fine

In accordance with a Supreme Court interim ban on out-of-state buses in Tamil Nadu, transport officials in Coimbatore seized an Arunachal Pradesh registered Omni bus, imposing a fine and escalating tensions.

Coimbatore: In a move that has sparked considerable controversy, regional transport authorities in Coimbatore apprehended an Omni bus bearing an Arunachal Pradesh registration number. This incident occurred near Kaniyur toll gate on the outskirts of Coimbatore city on the morning of June 27th, around 6 AM. The bus, owned by Kallada travels and equipped with air-conditioning, was en route from Chennai to Ernakulam, Kerala.

When the bus was stopped for a routine check, officials found it was operating in violation of a Supreme Court directive that prohibits out-of-state registered buses from operating within Tamil Nadu without proper authorization. Subsequently, the officials seized the bus with approximately 30 passengers onboard and escorted it to Gandhipuram.

After detaining the vehicle for about two hours at the central bus station near Gandhipuram, the regional transport department levied a fine of ten thousand rupees and forbade the operation of the bus, citing non-compliance with the state's transport regulations. This enforcement action comes amidst ongoing legal proceedings by the owner of Kallada travels, challenging the state's right to restrict the operation of out-of-state vehicles under the current judicial order.

These developments have led to heated debates among the passengers and further investigations are underway at the Coimbatore central regional transport office. More updates are expected as officials and legal authorities continue to navigate the complexities of this regulatory issue.
