Flood Warning Issued for Residents Along Bhavani River in Mettupalayam

Heavy rainfall alert in Mettupalayam prompts flood warning for residents along the Bhavani river due to increased discharge from the Bhavani Sagar Dam.

Coimbatore: The Meteorological Department has issued a heavy rainfall alert for the districts bordering the Western Ghats in Tamil Nadu, including Coimbatore, Nilgiris, and Tiruppur. Due to ongoing heavy rains, particularly in the Valparai region of the Nilgiris district, intermittent holidays have been declared for schools in affected areas. Concurrently, the inflow into the Bhavani Sagar Dam has been increasing steadily, leading authorities to release over 10,000 cusecs of water through the dam gates. Consequently, a flood warning has been issued for the residents along the Bhavani River in the Mettupalayam area. This increase in water discharge has prompted local administration to advise riverside community members to avoid crossing or bathing in the river. As of June 26, it is notable that 14,000 cusecs of water have been released.
