Meeting on Educational and Extracurricular Activities in Coimbatore Schools Held at RS Puram

A meeting to enhance educational and extracurricular activities for students in Municipal schools under West Zone, Coimbatore, was chaired by Commissioner Ma. Sivaguru Prabhakaran at RS Puram.


Coimbatore: A crucial meeting regarding the enhancement of educational and extracurricular activities in schools under the Coimbatore Municipal Corporation was held today, June 25, 2024. The event took place at the Art Theatre in RS Puram, chaired by City Commissioner Ma. Sivaguru Prabhakaran, focusing on boosting support for students in municipal schools.




In the meeting, detailed plans were discussed to improve and introduce various activities ranging from traditional dances like Bharatanatyam to modern languages and scientific experiments. This initiative aligns with the 2023-24 budget announcement priorities focused on fostering diverse skills among the students of 148 schools, comprising 83 primary, 38 middle, 10 high, and 17 higher secondary schools within the city.






The session also covered provisions for specialized training in music, enhancement of English speaking skills, field trips to industries, psychological counselling, and interactive learning sessions that promote engagement among students. Additionally, sports and traditional martial arts like swimming, skating, Silambam, as well as yoga, are to be integrated into the extracurricular programs.






Commissioner Ma. Sivaguru Prabhakaran emphasised the importance of these enhancements during his address. He highlighted the achievements of local students in national level competitions, offering praise and encouraging them to bring laurels to the district, state, and nation. The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioner Dr. S. Selvasurabi, Chief City Engineer Anbalagan, assistant commissioners, principles of municipal schools, supervisors, and other municipal officers.
