BJP Protests Against DMK Government for Failing to Stop Illegal Liquor Sales in Udumalai

BJP activists staged a protest in Udumalai, Tirupur district, condemning the Tamil Nadu government's failure to curb illegal liquor sales. The situation escalated into a skirmish with the police.


Coimbatore: BJP activists organized a protest in Udumalai, Tirupur district, condemning the Tamil Nadu DMK government for its failure to curb illegal liquor sales in the Kallakurichi area. Led by district leader Mangalam Ravi, the protestors paraded from Venkata Krishna Road through Vidyasagar Road, attempting a blockade on Udumalai-Pollachi road.



A scuffle between the police and BJP activists ensued, leading to heightened tensions. Subsequently, the police arrested over 300 individuals, including 15 women, who were taken to a private marriage hall, forcibly detaining them.






Leader figures such as state secretary Malarkodi, state OBC wing general secretary S.S. Kuttyappan, state lawyer wing Palaniswami, district general secretary Vaduganathan, and city leader Kannayiram participated in the protest. In response, Udumalai Deputy Superintendent of Police J. Sukumaran, along with several inspectors and sub-inspectors, was deployed to ensure security during the protest.
