Two Arrested for Ganja Sale under Goondas Act in Anaimalai, Coimbatore

Two individuals were detained and jailed under the Goondas Act for attempting to sell over 11 kilograms of ganja and cannabis-infused chocolate in the Anaimalai area of Coimbatore.


Coimbatore: In a significant crackdown in the Anaimalai area, the Coimbatore police have apprehended two persons for their involvement in the illegal ganja trade. Kerala residents Mohammed Shahabuddin (50) and his son Arif Raja (20) were caught with 8.4 kilograms of ganja and 3.1 kilograms of ganja-infused chocolate, poised for sale.


The duo, already facing multiple charges, was subject to preventive action under the Goondas Act, following a recommendation by Coimbatore District Police Supervisor Badrinarayanan. Based on his recommendation, Coimbatore District Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati ordered their detention under the act. Consequently, Mohammed Shahabuddin and Arif Raja were incarcerated under the Goondas Act as of June 21st, marking a significant move against public order offenses and maintaining public health.
