Union Minister L. Murugan Criticizes DMK Government's Handling of Kallakurichi Incident

Union Minister L. Murugan questions the DMK government's response to the Kallakurichi incident, urging the resignation of the responsible minister and questioning why the Chief Minister has not met the affected people yet.

Coimbatore: During his first visit to Coimbatore after being appointed as a Union Minister, L. Murugan received a warm welcome by BJP supporters at the Coimbatore airport.

Addressing journalists afterward, he called the Kallakurichi incident a dark day in Tamil Nadu's political history, deeming it unacceptable.

He accused the DMK government of incompetence and demanded the resignation of the Tamil Nadu Minister for Prohibition and Excise, holding him accountable for the incident as well as for increased alcohol shops despite promises of prohibition.

Furthermore, Murugan criticized the DMK government for their support to illicit brewing and claimed that the state government has indirectly taken lives due to its negligence. He also questioned the absence of the Chief Minister from visiting the affected site despite several hours since the incident, implying the Chief Minister's unavailability to meet with the people. Additionally, he mentioned ongoing CBCID investigations on similar events like the Marakkanam incident seem to serve more as cover-ups, with rising drug abuse issues in Tamil Nadu under the current administration. Murugan expressed his concern over the silence from DMK allies on criticizing the state government.
