BJP State Leader Annamalai Announces Relief Measures for Victims of Toxic Liquor Incident in Kallakurichi

The death toll from the toxic liquor consumption in Karunapuram near Kallakurichi has risen to 37, with many hospitalized across various districts. BJP State Leader Annamalai addresses the issue, blaming government negligence.


Coimbatore: BJP State Leader Annamalai while addressing reporters announced significant relief measures for the victims' families affected by the toxic liquor tragedy in Kallakurichi. The incident, which has so far claimed 37 lives, occurred in the Karunapuram area and has resulted in Myriads being hospitalized in various districts including Puducherry, Kallakurichi, Viluppuram, and Salem. The situation for many remains critical.

The tragedy has triggered waves of criticism across Tamil Nadu, with various parties condemning the state government’s lax response. Annamalai accused the state government of negligence in preventing the incident and announced that BJP will provide a compensation of Rs. 1 lakh to each victim's family and will support the education expenses of the children affected.

Further, he reiterated that the deaths occurred not in the rural but in the central part of the town, emphasizing that the administration's failure to act promptly. He stressed that protecting public welfare is the primary duty of the officials and criticized the district administration for allegedly trying to downplay the severity of the incident. Annamalai highlighted the need for a thorough investigation into the matter and informed that Union Home Minister Amit Shah has called for a detailed report on the mishap.

The incident highlights the issues with unregulated liquor available in the region and the failure of the state mechanisms to safeguard the citizens' welfare.
