BJP Announces Statewide Protest Against DMK's Inefficiency in Controlling Illicit Liquor Sales

On June 22, BJP will hold a statewide protest against the DMK government's failure to control illicit liquor trade, which has reportedly caused over 35 deaths in Kallakurichi. Annamalai announced the protest on X platform.

Coimbatore: The recently reported deaths due to illicit liquor in Kallakurichi has sent shockwaves throughout Tamil Nadu, putting the spotlight back on the DMK government’s inability to curb the menace. This tragic incident, claiming lives of over 35 individuals, has created both distress and outrage among the public.

The state has witnessed similar mishaps in the past two years under the DMK regime, reminiscent of the dark days of fatal alcohol-related incidents dating back to the 1980s. Concerns are mounting over the state regressing on this front.

Given the gravity of these recurrent tragedies, BJP has declared a statewide protest on June 22 to condemn the inefficiency of the DMK in halting illegal liquor sales, which continue to claim lives. The announcement was made by state BJP leader Annamalai on his X platform on June 20.

In addition, the BJP has called for the resignation of the Prohibition and Excise Minister and has questioned the moral right of Chief Minister M.K. Stalin to remain in office following the large toll the illicit alcohol has taken. The BJP stresses that the state needs determined and effective action against the perpetrators to prevent further loss of innocent lives.
