Dr. Krishnasamy Demands Tamil Nadu Government to Intervene in Manjolai Estate Issue

During his visit to Valparai, Dr. Krishnasamy spoke about the grievances of workers at Manjolai Estate and demanded government intervention to prevent forced evictions and improve workers' conditions.

Coimbatore: During a recent visit to Valparai, Dr. Krishnasamy, leader of the Puthiya Tamilagam party, addressed issues faced by the workers of Manjolai Estate. He highlighted the hardships, including forced evictions by the estate management and deteriorating working conditions. Dr. Krishnasamy urged the Tamil Nadu government to take control of the estate, ensuring at least five acres of land for each worker to aid in establishing alternative employment opportunities.

He warned that if the current management, under the expiring lease agreement of 99 years, continues its practice of eviction, his party would initiate significant protests. Dr. Krishnasamy stressed the urgent need for government intervention to provide a sustainable livelihood for estate workers and improve the tea plantation industry, which has been facing a decline in labor availability and low wage issues.

Additionally, he called for an amendment to the old contract, proposing that the workers should become shareholders in the estate's administration to help them gain a fair share of profits and improve estate operations. This restructuring is proposed to secure the future of estate workers and their families, ensuring economic stability and enhanced welfare in the tea plantation sector.
