Wild Elephants Roam in Coimbatore's Thondamuthur Region, Prompting Calls for Action

For the past ten days, four wild elephants have been causing havoc in the Thondamuthur area of Coimbatore, damaging crops and instilling fear in residents. Locals urge forest officials for decisive action.

Coimbatore: Residents of Thondamuthur, near the Western Ghats in Coimbatore, have been living in fear as four wild elephants have wandered into their village from the neighboring forest area over the last ten days. The elephants have not only wreaked havoc but also caused significant damage to agricultural lands.

The locals have reported the matter to the forest department, which has been making efforts to drive the elephants back into the forest. However, the elephants continue to return at night, causing further distress among the villagers. Concerns have grown as the presence of these large animals increases the risk of accidents and endangers human lives.

Local appeals are intensifying for the forest department to take more robust measures to ensure the safety of both the community and the elephants before any grave incidents occur.

Recently, video footage of the forest department personnel trying to chase the elephants back into the wilderness during night time has gone viral on social media, highlighting the ongoing struggles faced by both the humans and animals in this area.
