Indian Bank and South Central Railway Clinch Titles at All India Basketball Tournament in Coimbatore

The 57th Nachimuthu Gounder Cup for men and the 21st CRI Pumps Cup for women concluded in Coimbatore, with Indian Bank and South Central Railway winning their respective categories.


Coimbatore: In a thrilling conclusion to the All India Basketball Tournament held at the V.O.C. Indoor Sports Complex in Coimbatore, Indian Bank and South Central Railway emerged as champions in the men's and women's categories, respectively.



The tournament, which commenced on June 5th and spanned over five days, saw participation from eight renowned teams in each category.



From the men's teams, contenders included Chennai-Revenue Department, Chennai-Indian Bank, Bangalore-Bank of Baroda, Lucknow-Uttar Pradesh Police, New Delhi-Central Secretariat, Chennai-Loyola, Thiruvananthapuram-Kerala State Electricity Board, and Coimbatore District Basketball Association.



In the women's lineup, teams like Thiruvananthapuram-Kerala State Electricity Board, Mumbai-Central Railway, Mumbai-Western Railway, Chennai-Southern Railway, Chennai-Rising Star, Kolkata-East Indian Team, Secunderabad-South Central Railway, and Coimbatore District Basketball Club competed for the top prizes.



Indian Bank clinched the 57th Nachimuthu Gounder Cup in the men's division, securing a cash prize of ₹1,00,000 and the Nachimuthu Gounder Rotating Trophy. Following closely, the Chennai-Revenue team took the second place receiving ₹50,000 and the Dr. N. Mahalingam Cup. Bank of Baroda and Kerala State Electricity Board were awarded the third and fourth placements with prizes of ₹20,000 and ₹15,000 respectively.



Southern Railway fought bravely but ultimately South Central Railway took home the victory in the women's final, winning the 21st CRI Pumps Cup along with a cash prize of ₹50,000. Southern Railway grabbed the second place prize of ₹25,000 and a rotating cup, while Kerala State Electricity Board and East Indian Railway secured the third and fourth spots, receiving ₹15,000 and ₹10,000 respectively.

An accolade for the best sportswoman was awarded to Rashi Kothani from the Southern Railway team, highlighting her exceptional performance throughout the series.
