Cancer Survivors Day Celebrated at Coimbatore G. Kuppuswamy Naidu Memorial Hospital

Coimbatore's G. Kuppuswamy Naidu Memorial Hospital marked Cancer Survivors Day today, where over 100 survivors shared their stories of triumph and hope.


Coimbatore: In a touching celebration today, over 100 individuals who successfully battled cancer congregated at G. Kuppuswamy Naidu Memorial Hospital for the Cancer Survivors Day. The event emphasized the theme "Light of Hope", suggesting that cancer is not an end but can be overcome with optimism.




Participants, along with the doctors, nurses, and counselors who supported them through their treatment, lit candles to share their journey and foster hope among others facing similar battles. The ceremony projected resilience and the possibility of recovery, demonstrating the triumph of the human spirit over adversity.






The Chief Medical Officer of GKNM Hospital, Dr. Manoharan, presided over the event. The department heads of the cancer unit, Dr. Sivanesan, and Dr. Karthika, were present as guest speakers. They discussed the technical and emotional aspects of cancer treatment, while honoring the donors who have significantly contributed to the treatment costs, helping patients without sufficient means.






Special guest Dr. Jayaprakash Jegadeesan, a prominent psychiatrist, spoke about managing mental health issues during and after cancer treatment. Following him, motivational speaker Dr. Sharmila Banu inspired the audience by discussing success stories of those who, despite their challenges, have achieved remarkable feats with confidence.






The event included a session by an alternative medicine expert, Dr. Subramanya Gandhi, who explained the benefits of yoga and breathing exercises for pain management during recovery from illness.




This gathering not only celebrated the physical healing but also the emotional and holistic recovery that forms an integral part of surviving cancer.
