Coimbatore:

In a drive to honor the 101st birthday of the revered Dr. Kalaignar, a former leader and icon, Coimbatore South District saw a day filled with community support and celebrations. Early morning at 8 AM, local athletics star Mirthika received a smartwatch from N. Jegatheeswaran, promoting future sports achievements, as a part of the festivities.

Community aid extended beyond sports, with significant emphasis on social welfare. The Coimbatore City Corporation organized distribution events across various wards. Around 135 sanitation workers in wards 99 and 100 were gifted new uniforms, and 60 auto-rickshaw drivers received khaki uniforms. Additionally, 16 visually impaired families in ward 100 were provided with rice, grocery packages, and hot boxes, enhancing their daily comfort.

The event also celebrated academic excellence; students from Vellalur, Chettipalayam, and Malumichampatti public schools who topped their 10th and 12th grades were awarded a scholarship of Rs. 3,000 each, for their outstanding academic results. Furthermore, the DMK unit in Mettupalayam contributed an LED TV to the Tamil association there, supporting educational and recreational activities.

Special guests included prominent local figures such as S.A. Kadar, Secretary of Coimbatore South District, M.R.R. Prakash, Deputy President of Madhukkarai Union, Councillor Rajan, Secretary of the 100th Ward from Mettupalayam, and Daniel Jesudhas, Secretary of the Vellalur Perur Party. They participated and contributed to the success of the event, marking a significant day of tribute and community service.
