An illegal gravel mining racket was intercepted near Dharapuram in Tirupur district. Two trucks and a Hitachi machine were seized during the raid conducted based on a tip-off. Authorities are pursuing the escapees.

Tirupur: In a significant crackdown on illegal gravel mining, authorities seized two trucks and a Hitachi earthmoving machine near Dharapuram in Tirupur district.

The operation was initiated after Dharapuram Revenue Divisional Officer, Senthil Arasan, and Tahsildar Govindasamy received credible information about the illicit activities in Jothiampatti near Kundadam.

Acting on the tip-off, a team led by Tahsildar Govindasamy raided a plot, recognized by survey number 230/6, which belongs to one Shanmugasundaram, where illegal gravel extraction was noticed. Upon the authorities' arrival, the drivers of the Hitachi machine and the trucks hastily disconnected vehicle batteries and fled the scene.

Subsequently, based on information provided by Tahsildar Govindasamy to the Kundadam Police, the enforcement team comprising Kundadam police, survey officials, and administrative staff of Kundadam managed to immobilize the abandoned machinery using alternative keys. They later transported the seized vehicles and the Hitachi machine to the Kundadam police station for further investigation.

Officials are now on the lookout for the individuals who fled the scene, and further investigations are underway to unearth the extent of the illegal operation and potential connections to other illicit activities in the region.
