Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner M. Sivaguru Prabakaran Inaugurates Tree Planting Event Under Green Tamilnadu Mission

Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner M. Sivaguru Prabakaran launches a large-scale tree planting initiative under the Green Tamilnadu Mission near Kurichi Housing Unit, aiming at environmental conservation.


Coimbatore: On May 27, 2024, the Coimbatore Corporation Corporation, under the stewardship of Commissioner M. Sivaguru Prabakaran IAS, kick-started a significant green initiative by planting tree saplings as part of the Green Tamilnadu Mission. The event took place near the Kurichi Housing Unit, located in the southern region of the city.



The Green Tamilnadu Mission seeks to enhance the environmental landscape by integrating more green spaces across Tamil Nadu. In Coimbatore, Corporation Commissioner M. Sivaguru Prabakaran IAS announced that the municipal areas are set to become more eco-friendly with the implementation of various green strategies. This includes the establishment of tree saplings across the five zones: East, West, North, South, and Central of Coimbatore, encompassing municipal parks, open spaces, and alongside waterway banks.

Approximately 10,123 saplings of various indigenous species such as Neem, Indian Beech, Pongamia Pinnata, and Jamun will be planted in about 264 designated places. This initiative not only aims at beautifying the city but also at conserving biodiversity and managing ecological balance effectively.

Present at the event were Assistant Commissioner Ilango, Assistant Engineer Kanagaraj, Regional Health Officer Andiappan, Assistant Engineer Sabariraj, and other municipal officials, demonstrating a coordinated effort towards a greener Coimbatore.
