Coimbatore: A shocking incident emerged from Coimbatore where Nagammal, a 65-year-old from Madurai, became the victim of theft after being drugged by a woman she met at a temple. Nagammal, on a pilgrimage to visit the renowned Masaniyamman Temple in Anaimalai near Pollachi, was joined by a 55-year-old woman from Bangalore named Valli. Both women spent the night at the temple premises after the visit.

According to police reports, before going to sleep, Nagammal, under Valli's suggestion, secured her 20 sovereigns of jewelry in a bag. The next morning, she discovered both Valli and the bag containing the jewelry were missing. Nagammal immediately reported the theft at the Anaimalai police station. Upon investigation, police scrutinized CCTV footage and successfully located Valli in Bangalore, arresting her on May 23. The stolen jewelry was subsequently recovered.

Further investigations revealed that Valli had been residing in a rented house in Anaimalai’s Dharmaraja Colony, where she had previously stolen 7 sovereigns of jewelry from the house owner. Her criminal activities also extended to Chennai and Kanchipuram, where she had committed similar offenses. Police investigations continue as they delve deeper into her pattern of drugging victims before committing theft.
