YouTuber Savukku Shankar Detained for Two Days by Madurai Court over Ganja Possession

Madurai Court ordered a two-day police custody for YouTuber Savukku Shankar in connection with a Ganja possession case. Shankar was presented at a special narcotics court in Madurai on May 20.


Madurai: YouTuber Savukku Shankar was ordered by the Madurai Court to be detained for two days on police remand in connection with a Ganja possession case. Shankar, primarily known for his controversial remarks on police officials, was arrested by Coimbatore Cyber Crime Police on May 4 and subsequently lodged in Coimbatore Central Jail.

Following his arrest, another case was registered against Shankar and two others by the Theni Palanichettipatty Police for allegedly possessing Ganja at the time of his initial detention. On May 7, Shankar was re-arrested under this new charge.

The police sought custody to further investigate the narcotics case and Shankar applied for bail. He was heavily guarded and brought from Coimbatore to Madurai for a hearing at the special narcotics division of the Madurai Court today (May 20).

The proceedings were presided over by Judge Chengamal Selvan. Following a request from the police for an investigation, Judge Selvan ordered a medical examination of Shankar and the issuance of a health certificate. After the court's directive, police transported Shankar to the Government Rajaji Hospital in Madurai under strict security.
