Water Release from Amaravathi Dam in Udumalai for Drinking Water Schemes

Water released from Amaravathi Dam in Udumalai to meet the demands of joint drinking water schemes in Dharapuram until May 21. Initial two days at 172.80 million cubic feet, following three days at 155.52 million cubic feet.


Tirupur: To address the water requirements of Dharapuram and its surrounding areas, water releases from Amaravathi Dam in Udumalai have been initiated. This effort is aimed at supporting the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board and Dharapuram Municipality's joint drinking water projects. From today, May 16, the release will continue until May 21.



Over the first two days, water will be released at a rate of 1000 cubic feet per second amounting to 172.80 million cubic feet. Subsequently, for the next three days, it will be reduced to 600 cubic feet per second, totaling 155.52 million cubic feet.



The Tamil Nadu Government has ordered these measures based on the current reservoir levels and water inflow, which presently stands at 39.50 feet in the dam with an inflow rate of 44 cubic feet per second. These releases aim to ensure consistent water supply for the planned duration amidst varying inflows.
