Review Meeting on Uninterrupted Water Supply During Summer in Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Tirupur, and Erode

A review meeting chaired by Chief Secretary D. Karthikeyan, IAS, discussed ensuring uninterrupted water supply in summer across municipalities and town panchayats of Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Tirupur, and Erode.


Coimbatore: In an initiative to ensure continuous water supply during the summer season, a significant review meeting was held at the Mettupalayam Municipal Office in Coimbatore.



Chaired by D. Karthikeyan, IAS, Chief Secretary of Municipal Administration and Water Supply Department, the meeting focused on the regions within Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Tirupur, and Erode.


The discussion brought together Corporation commissioners including M. Sivaguru Prabhakaran, IAS from Coimbatore, Pavankumar G Giriyappanavar, IAS from Tirupur, and V. Sivakrishnamurthi, IAS from Erode. They assessed the water supply status across 7 municipalities and 33 town panchayats in Coimbatore, 1 municipality and 11 town panchayats in Nilgiris, five municipalities and 15 town panchayats in Tirupur, and four municipalities and 42 town panchayats in Erode.


Additionally, the officials discussed the operational status of reservoirs, water storage and regulated water release. Emphasis was placed on coordinated efforts among the officials to repair existing borewells, install new ones, and enhance the water distribution structures like water pandals, especially considering the current spike in temperatures. The meeting also aimed at raising public awareness about the available resources and the do's and don'ts during summer.
